“A family member told me there’s a scripture that says not to consult mediums. I’m not sure why. What’s your take on this?”
— Kristen, Radio Medium Listener

Thank you, Kristen, for this thoughtful and heartfelt question. It’s one that touches the core of faith-based, spiritual exploration and personal belief. As a practicing medium for over the last two decades, I and many of my colleagues have faced this question repeatedly—often with criticism and misunderstanding. The topic of mediumship, especially within the context of religious teachings, can be polarizing. This tension stems from deep-rooted interpretations, often taught out of fear, especially in conservative churches. It’s a quest for power.

We are all children of God who can make direct contact with spirit.

We all have the capacity to channel the divine. And when we transition from this life into the spirit world, we don’t lose that divine connection—we continue to be spirit, just as Jesus, or any other spiritual teacher, and just as our loved ones who have passed remain spirit. Most people underestimate their power of directly contacting their beloved’s spirit or the higher power. Therefore, some will use clergy or private prayer, and others may choose a medium per one’s preference. Regardless of who it is, one should always practice discernment.

Mediumship isn’t about replacing or challenging faith in God.

It’s about creating space for hope, healing, and connection. When someone loses a loved one, a message from beyond can bring powerful closure and peace. That’s the purpose of our work—not to worship spirits but to honor divine love that transcends life and death

Some religious communities perpetuate fear and exclusion.

Unfortunately, this turns many people away from making these connections personally. But spiritual gifts are meant to be inclusive, not exclusive. Many spiritual teachers embraced inclusion, love for all, and connection to the spiritual realm. In some ways, denying the possibility of spirit communication limits the infinite ways God may choose to reach us. The bottom line is that it comes down to who or what makes you most comfortable and delivers you peace.
